Tips to Advertise your Business Effectively
Simply coming up with a new idea or a new product is not going to serve any business purpose. The crux lies in how well you advertise or promote this idea or product in the market. The aim of any advertising or promotional campaign is to get the product transfixed in people’s minds. However, not all advertising campaigns are successful in doing that.
This is because advertising is like an art where the moot point is to strike the right chord with the final consumers/customers. Infact, a business or a company needs to advertise on an ongoing basis, in order to keep its product alive in people’s mind. Otherwise, as they say out of sight is out of mind as well.
Following are the tips that will help you to advertise your product effectively in the market:
Decide on the objective of your advertisement:
The pre requisite of any advertising campaign is to decide on the goal or aim of the advertisement. Once you have decided on the goal or intent, you can format your advertising or promotion campaign in such a manner that it would be able to serve its purpose. Goals could be like, what do want your customers to find out through this advertisement or promotional campaign, do you want to rebuild or strengthen your image, do you want to show the competitive advantage of your business etc.
Decide on the target audience and don’t try to please every one:
If you are selling a washing detergent, but naturally your target consumers are going to be mostly women. Design the advertising campaign in such a way that it bodes well with the female consumers. If your product is catering to high end segment, your advertisement should be handsomely designed so as to captivate the high end niche segment. In addition, don’t try to please everyone. Each product has to be positioned to its target market, so don’t be compelled to go out of your way to reach or capture all the markets, as you will surely burn your fingers.
Don’t go overboard with your advertising budget:
Make sure to decide on your advertising or promotional budget well in advance. Avoid spending too much and revise the budgeted amounts only under dire circumstances. A small business will always try and spend a minimal amount on advertising its products vis-à-vis the large companies. However, even large companies should apply a restraint and avoid spending excessively on promotional campaigns, something for which they are anyways famous for. This is because a high cost for advertising will significantly erode your bottom-line.
Before launching any new product or brand repositioning, test your ads:
If you are not sure that advertisement that you have formulated for the launch of new product or reposition your old brand in the market, would be liked by the target audience, you can always test your advertisement. For testing your advertisement, you need to print out questionnaire or invest in focus groups. By doing this, you can gauge the reaction of your target audience which will let you know that whether the message which you are trying to put across has been able to reach the target audience or not.
Decide on the mode of advertising:
There are lots of modes for advertising your product or service such as print media, television, radio, brochures, newsletter etc. You can decide on the combination of options depending on the nature of your business, business size, advertising budget, target audience etc.
Get the feedback/response:
Try and get the feedback from the consumers through your website, regarding the channel or mode where they heard about your product or service. This will help you to find out which modes of advertising are working well, which will help you in choosing your advertising modes effectively in future. In addition, you can also keep a survey on your business website where you can ask the customers feedback about your advertisement.
