The Interview Call
Going for an interview is not merely about dressing well, flashing an impressive resume and showing off your qualifications. There are certain things that can really help shape your interview and destiny. It does not take much, but can get you a long way. Before you get to the interview you must take the time to research the organisation thoroughly. You must have enough knowledge about the organisation, it’s functions, vision and also subsidiaries if any. You should be able to answer any questions that would be posed which are relevant to the company.
It is handy to know who you will be faced with during your interview. If you know someone in the company, you can try and find out who will be present and what their designations are. This will help you prepare much better.
Needless to say, you cannot be late. Take the time to go a little earlier, it is alright to wait your turn. This will give you a chance to take in the atmosphere, and that will also give you more of an idea of the company. The attitude will be apparent to you. You might also find some more literature or even a newsletter while you wait. It will just give you more insights.
At the interview, make the most of the chance you have got. Play up your strengths, and make sure you tell your employers what you want them to know about you. Most interviewers will start by asking you to tell them something about you. Do not ramble on about your education or qualifications, they are already in your resume. Give them more insights into your personality. Tell them what makes you good for the job. Tell them what you have to make a difference to the organisation. Appear clear and structured in your thoughts. Do not be confused, and never lie.
Before you leave, make sure you are polite and thank them. Try and get your interviewers’ business cards if possible. Make sure you have followed up your interview with a thank you note or an email. This makes a good impression. If you are meant to call the company on a certain date, make sure you do it. There is nothing to be embarrased. If the company says they will call you, wait and do not call back. If they do not get back to you, move on.
