Start a Toy Library

By on April 2, 2010

Anyone who has children has a vast number and large variety if toys and is through the years getting more and more. You often wonder what to do with them once your child has outgrown them and you begin to discard them or simply give them away. This is where your business sense can come in.

Start keeping all the toys and games in a cupboard. Even old cycles, scooters and buses must not be given away. As your child grows older you buy workbooks for him. Tear the pages of these and get them laminated and use with felts that can be wiped so that they can be re used.

Over the years you will be able to collect pushing and pulling toys, educational games, board games as well as some battery operated toys. Also some soft toys and puppets which will be of use once you start up. Once you have collected a good amount of things start labelling it according to the age of the child that can use it. This is all part of setting up your toy library. In the case of board games and puzzles make sure to write the number of items it contains so that nothing gets lost and it becomes easy for you.

Make a list of all items you will be displaying and choose one day of the week where you can rearrange some part of your house for your toy library. Let people know the timing of your library. Open it once a week for two hours. Make sure to take a nominal deposit amount from them and charge them for every item they take. Inform them that the materials need to be returned the following week on the same day or else they would be charged extra.

You must be able to help them choose correct materials according to the age of their child. Once you start there will be people coming to you with their old toys and games asking you to use them. Inform the members that they will be charged for any damage to the toys.

The good thing about starting a toy library is that you work only once a week, don’t require any skill and can work from home and still make easy and quick money without any form of investment.
