The Japanese theory Kaizen is very popular in the business world. It’s a gradual process which focuses on continuous improvement. At the same time this theory encourages active involvement of the workforce.

This fact cannot be ignored that with the implementation of this theory from the top management to the cleaning crew all have active participation in the organisation.

The theory of kaizen was initiated when Japan faced tremendous downfall  after the World War II. The word kaizen is derived from the Japanese word Kai which means change or to correct and Zen means good. The philosophy behind kaizen is to do it better and improve it even if the situation is not too bad. This concept is very helpful and also essential for surviving in various competitions.

This theory does not need any specific area for implementation. In Japan this theory brings improvement in both business, home life and in varied social activities. It can bring improvement by making little changes on regular basis which ultimately yield fruitful results. Everyone is encouraged to make suggestions on regular basis which are also implemented.

In business this concept calls for active involvement of employees of every level. It can bring improvement in space utilization, product quality, employee retention and use of capital. This theory provides immediate results as it focuses on the on-going processes and continuously makes small changes.

Thus, all these factors reduce the wastage and helps in process improvement. Moreover, with the implementation of this theory the wastage in inventory, transportation timings, worker motion and even employee skills can be reduced to large extend which is beneficial for the organisation in true sense.

In Toyota Kaizen theory is strictly followed and this organisation is one of the classic examples of this theory. Now many American organisations are keen to follow this concept which would bring marvellous change in their corporate culture. It has been noticed that kaizen theory seems to be focused on the negativity and problems in the business but in actual sense it brings improvement.

The most important factors are employee training and communication which plays the key role and provides strong foundation for the future. Moreover, the evaluation and the implementation of the suggestions given by the employees  has a positive impact on the organization.
