How to Cope with Workplace Change Management

By on February 23, 2010

Change is important and necessary in offices. Organizations keep bringing change in the existing system in order to make it better functional and productive. Change management is a systematic approach that can be defined as the transitioning of different teams in an organization, in order to achieve a new desired system of work.

Change management is implemented in a controlled manner. It brings about modifications in a reasonable period of time, depending upon the model of new requirements. The time scale may be small or big.

When change happens fast, most of us find it difficult to adjust. When we are not able to cope with the new system, we often start blaming the change management technique. Our productivity is affected and we get over stressed. Work remains pending and we are forced to put in extra time as well as effort to complete it.

However, change is inevitable. The sooner we accept this, the easier life will be. Listed below are some basic tips which can help you adjust to change management.

* Be realistic in your expectations. If you are finding the new system unfriendly, it is fine! Give yourself some time to know the system. Unnecessary force will only worsen your problems.

* Don’t be disappointed if your productivity decreases initially. Assure yourself that your results are poor only because of sudden change in the system; it’s not your personal failure.

* Keep your confidence in place. Low confidence levels hamper your productivity, which will further increase your dislike towards change management.

* Do not stress yourself in to mastering the new system. Take it easy and at a comfortable pace.

* Concentrate on the benefits of change management. Avoid comparing the new system with the old one. Even if you feel tempted to compare, match the advantages of the new system against the disadvantages of the old one. Otherwise, you will tend to miss your “comfort system” more!

* Actively learn the techniques created by change management rather than just blaming the new system. Ask openly for guidance in case of doubts or queries.

* Most important of all, be optimistic. Change your attitude towards change management. Train your mind to believe that change is always for good. You will then be able to accept change much easily.
