Handling Lazy Employees
In every organization there are several employees who simply vile away their time, are less productive than the others and always find an excuse for being so.
It is quite difficult in a huge organization to check on people who waste time on playing games, browsing the internet and indulging in unauthorized activities online.
It is very important to be strict with such employees, issue warnings and if there is no change seen, dismiss.The reason for being harsh on laziness and callousness is that it is contagious. All the employees begin to do the same thing.
In small organizations one may not be able to correct laziness for several reasons. You may know the employee for years and of late her work is not satisfactory and you do not feel hurting or dismissing her immediately.
It could be the person has personal problems and you would like to support the person. But do remember you are running a business not a social organization. Your employees should render results not simply vile away time. You need profits through working you cannot let your money invested just be used for a social cause of supporting someone.
When you confront a lazy employee, sit with them and have a talk. Be firm and strict that this is how you want things done and that you would like to see positive results and work completed within stipulated time. Explain to them that you fully understand their situation and would love to support them but only if their performance is up to the mark. Any deterioration in performance and they are out of the company…be clear, polite and assertive.
Set a time frame and explain that if they do not meet deadlines within that date you may have to take severe action. For a huge organization it is practically difficult to monitor what individual employees are doing. Especially in software companies and where the major work is with the system, one can install employee management software.
These programs enable monitoring the activities of the employees on the computer and warning if any illicit activity is found to being done. Overall it is important to keep a check on laziness and not let them get away without being reprimanded.
