Green Printing: A Revolution
Human civilisation has gone a long way to polluting the environment it has found around itself. Its evolution from the time man invented the wheel to the time it uses factories to produce goods of mass consumption has only added tons of environmental pollution.
The invention of paper and developing the art of printing on it has contributed to pollution in its own way. There has been a huge demand for paper, trees have been cut down for paper, and this in turn has brought us before the monster of global warming.
As the phenomenon of global warming is traced to the cutting of trees for paper used for printing, it is assumed that we could avoid global warming if we did not opt for printing more paper or alternatively, if we opted for eco-friendly printing or green printing.
Using recyclable paper and ink, and using renewable sources of energy for the purpose of printing could help in this case. Replacing old and worn out machine that use a lot of energy and give out a lot of exhaust or waste gases with new and modern equipment which is economical in terms of fuel and energy would be the best option for the printer as well as the consumer.
For the printer, green printing would certainly not prove to be an expensive option. Instead, it could bring back investments made into the business by getting rid of the headache of maintaining machinery, and the expenses involved with it. For the consumer, it could add to the consciousness that he or she has added a bit to environmental conservation, while at the same time, it could prove to be a lot more cheaper than buying products made from traditional methods of printing.
The internet could prove to be a good place to start hunting for printers offering green printing. A smooth coordination between the company’s designer and the printer could prove to be essential to yield the desired results. Using a green ink or environmental friendly ink could be the next step. Ink made from vegetables should be opted for rather than ones made from petroleum.
Conventional printing uses water as the base for ink. Printers using water based printing options or inks are avoided because the ink flows away on contact with water. Instead, plastisol based ink is used and is considered to be more reliable.
