Flexible Business Plans
Running a business requires that you have a business plan in place before starting out. But this business plan should not be rigid or follow a set patterns at all times. It should be flexible enough to adapt to the changes in your business.
A flexible business plan is needed because a set plan may not work at all times and sometimes going according to this plan could be harmful for your business. If your business exists in a constantly changing environment then a fixed plan will make it difficult to move ahead.
Business plans are made on the assumption that things will not change and going according to plan will be easy. But a better insight will tell you that this might not always be the case. You will realise that it has to be flexible.
Before you decide to make your business plans flexible and adapt to any changes it is necessary to get the approval of your partners. It is necessary to take a collective decision on the matter.
A fixed business plan will make it difficult to make changes and take advantage of the changing situation or the altered rules of business. An inflexible plan will make the business incapable to adapt to new ideas and will have a negative impact.
A fixed plan creates no scope for creativity or innovation in the business. This is necessary if the business has to grow or move ahead. This is important if it has to outdo the competition.
A rigid plan does not allow managers to think beyond the present. It makes them focus on the now rather than enable them to make projections based on future events.
Plans are usually made depending on factors that worked in the past, but given the changing business climate it is not necessary that they work in the future or even the present. If they are flawed they can even lead to failure of the business.
Business plans are required to run the business in a certain way and keep it organized but they also need to be flexible to adapt to any changes.
