Creativity is a buzzword of today’s corporate world. Creativity in simple terms can be explained as an idea or a process which has ability to bring out something new that is somehow appropriate and novel in approach. Hence, creativity is all about bringing the idea into existence and it completely different from innovation.

Traditionally, organisations prefer conventional approach but the scenario has changed with the advancement of technologies, impact of globalisation and liberalisation of policies by the government.

All these factors have led to cut throat competition. Now survival for the fittest is the basic mantra.  Therefore, creativity is inevitable which is only possible if the workplace encourages supportive organisational culture. This can be possible through enhancement of creativity of people at work where diverse and new ideas are encouraged, challenging work situation also promotes creativity and even criticism plays crucial role in the enhancement of creativity.

Creativity is an inborn quality, this fact cannot be denied. Every employee or a manager cannot be creative at same level. Individual’s personality plays key role. The fear of failure and criticism is the most common barrier to creativity. People often feel humiliated and rejected hence they mostly abandon the idea at its initial stage.

Anxiety is another barrier as managers/people by human nature prefer things to be clear and organised. Thus, any kind of changes in the scenario is strictly avoided and tries their best to keep the conventional approach.

The pessimistic approach is the main barrier in the ability to think creatively as it is self-destructive in nature. Confident and optimistic managers are asset for the organisation as for them every problem comes gives opportunities rather than obstacles. Managers are always working to create new ideas which are beneficial for the organisation which no doubt adds stress and anxiety which ultimately causes the barrier in creative thinking.

Even the social, physical, economic and work environments make key impact upon people. Moreover, it is not necessary that in workplace the creative ideas can cultivated as some managers are comfortable in other places too.

Creativity is a competitive resource and managers need to provide supportive environment which would be helpful for the organisation. As in creative work culture problems are often solved in an innovative and economical manner which also minimises wastage of resources.  Thus, creativity and management go hand in hand in the organisations.
