Who is an internal client? Let us consider an example. I provide my service to my boss who then pays me for the same. So, my boss is my client. If I displease my boss, my career stands affected.
Consider you are a talented professional and you have several ideas for better productivity. So, how do you convince your client (boss) to buy your ideas?
- Nobody prefers to move from their comfort zone. Even your client would think the same, unless you provide him with a picture of a better comfort zone! List all the advantages of your ideas and disadvantages of the existing system, so that your client has a firm reason to listen to your suggestions.
- Be persistent, not pestering. Your client may say that he is busy or he has numerous meetings and official trainings lined-up. Meet him later when he appears free from engagements.
- Avoid discussing the proposal in a tone of ‘personal-gain’. Use words which highlight your team spirit.
- Be open for debates while discussing. Your ideas maybe excellent and deserve a Nobel Prize but your client may have a different opinion.
- Drop all the blame-words, even if the existing arrangement is close to a disaster! A good salesman always highlights the benefits of his product rather than criticizing the competitor’s!.
- An excellent presentation is always the pre-requisite of a successful proposal! Mere speeches may not capture your client’s interests if he has poor visualization. Draft a presentation that has ample pictures and diagrams. Add a few humor strips in places where you need to make a strong impression. It always works!
At the end of the end, everything comes down to sales. A frank and honest approach will open the door to your client’s office!
